On December 13, the Shigaraki Study Tour was held, organized by the Graduate School of Environmental Studies.
During this tour, participants visited the Shigaraki ware production area and learned about the region’s long-standing craftsmanship culture, as well as local efforts to make better use of resources.
By walking through the town and learning about the history of Shigaraki ware, participants were able to see how ceramic culture has been passed down and how it has been closely connected to everyday life in the community. They also learned about environmentally conscious initiatives, such as recycling ceramic-related waste and incorporating new technologies into local production.
In the afternoon, participants took part in a hands-on pottery workshop. While touching the clay, each student freely designed and shaped their own piece. Through this experience, participants gained a deeper appreciation for the time, effort, and care that go into making things.

Walking through the production area and listening to local stories helped me realize how deeply Shigaraki ware is connected to the community’s daily life.
Learning about the background behind the works made this a very meaningful experience.

12月13日に環境研究科国際室主催の「信楽スタディツアー」を実施しました!
今回のツアーでは、信楽焼の産地を訪れ、地域で続いてきたものづくりの文化や、資源を大切にする取り組みについて、現地で学びました。
信楽焼の歴史やまちの様子を実際に歩きながら、陶芸文化が人々の暮らしの中でどのように受け継がれてきたのかを知ることができました。また、窯業系廃棄物のリサイクルや新しい技術を取り入れた取り組みなど、環境に配慮した産地づくりについてのお話も伺いました。
午後は陶芸教室での制作体験を行い、粘土に触れながら、それぞれが自由にデザインを考えて作品づくりに挑戦しました。実際に手を動かしてみることで、ものづくりには時間や手間、そして作り手の思いが込められていることを実感する時間となりました！

産地を実際に歩いて話を聞くことで、信楽焼が地域の暮らしと深く結びついていることを感じました。作品を見るだけでは分からない背景を知ることができ、とても貴重な体験でした。
陶芸体験では、思った通りの形にするのが難しかったですが、その分、完成がとても楽しみになりました。この体験を通して、普段使っているものも大切に使いたいと思うようになりました。
